Hi Tom,

When you get a chance, try this one out.
http://www.se-spider.com/

It may give you ideas on how to improve search hits on Temerc.
Just knowing what the spiders see helps.

Clif

Thanks Clif, here are the results:

http://www.se-spider.com/cgi-bin/simula ... ow=1&lg=us

I'll have to stare at it a bit more tonite tho. You can see which words I have inserted for the meta tags and such.

Just had a thought tho, maybe I will change the meta tags to include the latest malware infections. hm?

This way, people can find the site, and then the forums? ?>!

Adding meta tags?

Hmm, complicated but made easy by some online meta tag generators and also a freeware program I've recently reviewed.

Metty - meta tag generator

Online generators

That should help you if you want to make your own tags Jean.

My opinion - about the results from your spider search ...
(for what it's worth - I'm a newbie at this too)

Good meta tag desciption
Good keywords - could add a few more if you think on it
Content - great! Tons of it on the front page
Internal links? Hmmm, don't know how well spiders follow php.
External links - need more, and need to get other sites to link to you

That's all ...
Overall, pretty good. Better in some categories than I can do.
I think the most benefits you can get would be from getting other sites to link to you.

Well here is the thing I am talking about Clif. I gave it a try on Zima's Zoo and there are no tags or keywords at all. Why would that be? There is a Google bot that literally sits on the site. It never leaves as far as I can tell it is always there with the same IP address as a guest on the site.

Sorry Jean, I don't know how to even see the tags at a php forum. Usually I can "view source" and see the meta tags and some HTML code, but not at Zima.

If you have those kinds of questions that need answered you'll have to take it up with the forum host.

Tom,
You get numerous Google hits on the MSN Site, I suggest several redirects to your new forum here, also adding the words Forum, spyware, adware to the meta tags would help alot.
I see this new site isn't listed in "Forums", I couldn't even locate it in the "Links" page? (It's late, I'm blonde......)

HTH

Good suggestions CD.

But what do you mean by:

Which forum isn't it listed on? <?>

Actually it is possible to have too many, but you haven't gotten anywhere near that I'm guessing.

There are sites out there that have pages with nothing on them but keywords to try and draw traffic. Google and Yahoo both recognize the behaviour and won't list them on principle.

Those are good keywords. I hope they help. I'm sure they can't hurt.

Sorry, my trouble navigating the MSN site is probably just me...

My Google searches were landing me here:
http://groups.msn.com/TeMercInternetSec ... sures.msnw
(insert DUH here) d!

The changes you've made already are great, and of course anyone landing on the "Welcome" Page has a big invite to find their way here.

Well, I was setting up my profile on my Dads box, and did a Google for TeMerc. Came up with lots of stuff, mostly articles I have posted, altho, the main site, forum and the MSN site were at the top.

I came upon this link too:
http://www.computer-directory.info/dir/ ... /index.cgi

I am guesssing thats from that list site that Clif suggested(can't find thread). Not too bad, I seem to be in some pretty good company.

I'm glad to see it's picking up a bit. That thread about the web index is at http://www.temerc.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=159

The web index dmoz.org is used by many websites and search engines as a resource. Once they get you indexed, others will put you in also.
