Malwarebytes 1.41

I discovered antivirus pro malware a few weeks ago, downloaded malwarebytes. Found and removed some elements.
still I was getting google redirects.

Stopped using google
now I get ramdom redirect to directrdr.com and luxurylink.com
popup with unable to connect to (something like) Uhsjdjkb2637216t%*&^Y ^):? h*&&7

My Homepage, drudgereport loads before popup even when I am on another site.
I heard about Breitbart and adobe having been compromised...?

Could you please advise?

Hello and w^* to TeMerc Internet Countermeasures Forum and thanks for joining. 1rokon

If you've run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, please send the latest scan log which is located in the 'logs' tab of the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware interface.

Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware>>Click the 'Logs' tab
Select log from date, they're named mbam-log-2009-xx-xx [10-11-12].txt
then click the 'Open' button. then copy and paste it into your next reply.

Install HostsXpert from the link below and save the zip file to your desktop:
http://www.funkytoad.com/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=31
Create a new folder called HostsXpert on the C drive. Extract all files into this folder.
Double-click the HostsXpert icon to open it up.
Then click the 'Restore MS Hosts' button, close HostsXpert.

Please uninstall the following programs via the Add|Remove control panel using these instructions:
  • Click your Image button
  • Select the Image
  • Then click on Image icon
  • Then find the following programs and click the Image button for each, if they are listed. If they are not, continue with instructions
MegaUpload

Open HJT and run another scan. Once it's completed the scan, look over the following entries I have listed, place a check in the boxes next to them as displayed(some may not be present due to previous instructions): Image and press the Image button. When you are doing this, make sure you have no browser windows open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

ok lets look a little deeper

Download RSIT by random/random from the link below and save it to your desktop.
http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe
You may have to change the name, change it to winlogon.exe
Double click on the file to run it.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please allow the download of Trend Micro's HijackThis to collect additional information not included in the default RSIT output.
Once it has finished, two logs will open.

Please copy & paste the contents of LOG.txt (<<will be maximized-displayed on desktop)

***DO NOT SEND INFO.TXT... if I need it I will ask specifically for it.***

Thanks.

Download TFC, a temp files\folder cleaner from the link below:
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe
Save it to your desktop.
Print these instructions. Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs... including your browser!
Double click on TFC.exe to run it.
TFC will begin cleaning up the "temp" files... it may take only a few seconds or it could be several minutes, depending on the amount of temp files found.
If prompted to reboot... click Yes.

Download the Avenger & save to desktop:

http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger2/download.php

Unzip it. (right click> choose "extract all"> follow wizard to extract files.)
Avenger folder should open for you.
If unzipped properly -- Avenger icon looks like a sword.

Close as many running programs as possible including antimalware because you will be rebooting shortly.

Double click Avenger.exe & allow it to run.
Click OK to first prompt.
Have the following checked:
"check for rootkits"
Have the following UNchecked:
"Automatically disable all rootkits found"
Click "execute"
Click OK.
OK prompt about not having a script.
Windows will reboot.

Copy and paste log into next reply

Just looked odd and created 11/9/09 about when the anti virus pro issue started.

Thanks.

Yes those logs appeared at the same time too, see below from RSIT:
2009-11-09 23:43:44 ----D---- C:\365179a521da636d432935ad88b99a
2009-11-09 23:41:47 ----D---- C:\51373d0653c155bef165

You can delete them.

But I'm not seeing anything else either. So lets run ComboFix.

Download ComboFix from one of the following links.
If ComboFix flashes and disappears and does not run it's possible you may have to rename the file as many malware infections block this tool(do not include 'combofix' as part of the new name). There is also a chance this will still fail. In that event, you may have to download the file from an uninfected computer, install it to a CD or USB stick and rename it before installing it to the infected machine

Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Tom,
When I attempt to download combofix I get this alert.

McAfee has automatically blocked and removed a Trojan.

About this Trojan
Detected: Artemis!A75B6BBF2E1C (Trojan), Artemis!A75B6BBF2E1C (Trojan)
Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick Riley\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YAJYLHIS\ComboFix[1].exe

Trojans appear as legitimate programs but can damage valuable files, disrupt performance, and allow unauthorized access to your computer.

Please advise.

I did disable Mcafee and downloaded combofix to my desktop. When I ran it I got the following warning(something like): Authentium antivirus is still running, it is recommended to close this program. I cannot recall seeing this name, Authentium.

Until after the antivirus pro infection. I do not recall having installed authentium ever and am not sure how to uninstall.

I did not continue to run combofix after the warning. Should I???

Thanks for your help!

Sorry, missed these last couple of replies.

Please re-run ComboFix, I've never had anyone tell me it produced a blank log nor had it happen to me.
