Overview:

Quote:
hpObserver is a small program that allows you to monitor networks and website's (or IP's if you prefer).

Current features include;

- Monitor HTTP or UNC path
- Continuous or single pass monitoring
- Comparison validation
- hpHosts inclusion status
- Obtain Servers IP
- Obtain webpage size (in bytes)
- Print/Save results
- Send URL to vURL Desktop Edition or vURL online edition
- Send URL to SiteAdvisor
- Send URL to TrustedSource
- Server response code (i.e. 200, 404, 501 etc)

v0.1.4

Changes:

Added: Import Outpost IP Blocklist
Added: Full rDNS (including PTR)
Added: New validation mode (IP resolution only)

Modified: Updated help file

Notes:

Special thanks to Donna and Hardhead at Calendar of Updates (CoU) for both suggesting and testing the new features.

I completely forgot about the individual validation method and such that were mentioned in the review by ghacks.net (http://forum.hosts-file.net/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=463), so will work on those for 0.1.5 (and I'll write 'em down this time so I don't forget again, lol).

Modified: Validation routines completely re-written to improve speed
Modified: IP and PTR resolution re-written

Fixed: XML validation selected when asked to use rDNS (and vica versa)
Fixed: Error occurs when dragging/dropping domains (drag/drop has been disabled as it's not required)

Misc: Several other modifications and bug fixes, thanks to private testing by TeMerc, HardHead and Sparsha

Notes:

Note, this release includes a new help file, and more importantly, ALL files have been moved to the /Storage folder to help keep things as clean as possible.

If you find you've lost your settings, ensure you move the config and monitor etc files/folders, to /Storage (you'll need to shutdown hpObserver before doing this)

Just a note folks, if you've already downloaded this, please re-download it as I've fixed a bug in the context menu when right clicking the listview (items that should be enabled, are disabled).

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Steve,

I just stumbled on what i think might be a small bug(or a setting's problem not sure)

The tool fails to resolve sites which resolves to multiple IP address. <?>

For instance: Registrydoctorpro2008.com resolves to 3 different IP's and is already listed, When i try to check the status of the site using the tool it fails to resolve to any of the IP address.

Applog:
Code:
10-01-2009 00:39:27 I've been asked to resolve: registrydoctorpro2008.com
10-01-2009 00:39:27 PTR: registrydoctorpro2008.com
10-01-2009 00:39:32 IPAddr: 77.245.61.80, 93.174.93.213, 93.190.139.229
10-01-2009 00:39:32 IP invalid: 77.245.61.80, 93.174.93.213, 93.190.139.229, reverting to 127.0.0.1
10-01-2009 00:39:34 Site [ http://registrydoctorpro2008.com ] is currently Offline

Addition to Current features:

Send URL to Safeweb
Send URL to Browser Defender

Can we have an additional button next to Start Monitor (or some where else)which contains a drop down menu to "Check This site with" list. (To make the current drop down menu a little smaller :) )

Do you have the URL's for those two? (I presume it's something along the lines of "url.com/site" ???)

I'll sort out the dropdown menu for you :)

Here you go :) ....... I've included SafeWeb and BrowserDefender, and moved the menu to a sub-menu of the context menu for now (till I get the menu on the toolbar done :))

hpObserver 0.4.6 has now been released.

Changes:

Fixed: "Index out of bounds" occurs when the file you are importing has an EOL (empty line) at the end of the file

Modified: When importing, you are no longer asked if you want to verify the sites you are importing. Instead, there is a setting for this (Tools > Misc) (see screenshot attached)

Modified: Change notifications are no longer presented when running single pass verification (unusual for this to occur anyway, but I've disabled them for this mode all the same)

Modified: Change notifications in continuous mode can now be disabled (it will log changes to file instead), via Tools > Misc (see screenshot attached)

Modified: If change notifications are enabled, the program will be put on top of all other running programs when a prompt is presented, just incase you happen to be doing something else and don't notice it (this is to prevent it hanging the program)

Version: 0.4.8

Added: "Use external server for DNS lookups" (Tools > Settings)

If enabled, hpObserver will use a special file on the temerc.com server to do the hostname > IP lookups

Added: Auto-saves results to \storage\temp_validation.txt whilst the validation process is running

If the application crashes during validation, this file can be used to restore the last saved results

Fixed: Save IP changes to log instead of prompting does not save
Fixed: Domains with underscored ("_") incorrectly fail to resolve

Modified: IANA RESERVED and internal (non-public) IP's are now correctly identified in the PTR (if enabled)

This includes;

  • 0.0.0.0 (ms-localhost)
  • 1.1.1.1 (IANA RESERVED)
  • 2.2.2.2 (IANA RESERVED)
  • 10.0.0.1 (NRIP)
  • 127.0.0.1 (localhost)
  • 128.0.0.1 (localhost)
  • 172.0.0.1 (NRIP)
  • 192.168.x.x (NRIP)
  • 255.255.255.255 (spurious)

Quote:
Notes:

Special thanks to Rodney for the suggestions and bug fix notifications, and to Henry (securemecca.com) for the suggestion to add the IANA and internal PTR info.
