I'm embarassed about my stupidity but here goes..... there are 2 big yellow ?'s by "Other devices",
each one is "Unknown device". When I click on "Properties" for each, they both have Code 1.
One is Location: VIA Standard PCI to ISA Bridge
Other is Location: on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System.

I think there's a button to "Enable driver". If I knew how, I'd attach a screen shot.

I have no idea what to do  . I've tried searching for info but everything I find is in language that's waay over my head.

By the way, would this problem have anything to do with my screen flickering?

Thank you,
grits

I don't have too much experience in this area, but the first is related to the motherboard, if I'm not mistaken. And unless you're experiencing problems, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The second one could be any number of devices which Windows does not recognize. Do the properties give any more details?

Also how long have they been displaying the yellow ?

Made any changes to the system?

Questions first; is this the first time you've noticed this, have you recently installed or removed any hardware? Visited the Windows update site, select Custom, and see if you get a hit Hardware.

I'd caution against trying to update the driver unless you know what software CD you need - so that the o/s can do the install.

As for screen problems, this could be one of these times when several problems happen at the same time. Good luck, Mindblower!

Am gonna try to mingle answers to both TeMerc & Mindblower.........
MB, don't know if you meant 1st time to notice screen flicker or Device Mgr?.......flicker has been approx. 1-2 wks. , don't have the foggiest how long ?'s have been in DM.....how often should I be looking there?
College kid I used to work with got this machine for me thru newegg.com , don't think I have any CD's.
Vaguely remember him saying something about an icon problem in sys.tray after he brought me what I guess is called a "flash drive" that I've never used (don't understand it). Would that have anything to do with the "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard" window that pops up on screen every time I turn on puter?
Betcha didn't realize you had such an idiot to work with when you posted your answers did ya?
Will shut up here & go see if I can manage to post screen shots of DM.....got the shot already, just not sure how to get it into a post.

Nope, the "How to" just tells that sometimes permission is needed but the can do's already say i can. My problem is not knowing how to get it from my machine to a post. Other than me being a dummy in the 1st place is there something about Irfanview that i'm doing wrong that prevents me from copy/paste or whatever is needed to get the screen shot here?

As i said "betcha didn't know"

Okay grits, from what you mentioned, this is NOT a brand new install of programs on the computer. You received it, someone did some installs and now you have problem(s). If this is about right, I'll sit the rest out and allow someone who really knows how to solve, do the solving. Sorry, but this is beyond my scope, Mindblower!

I didn't watch this, but maybe there is something in this YouTube vid

I'm sure all you need to do is navigate to the proper folder where the pic is stored to attach it here.

Well.......kinda sorta , have always wondered about several things he put on/in this thing which to begin with was Sept. 2007 , then had him back in Jan. this year to correct a couple muff ups , but won't put all blame on him cuz i've done some program downloads. He's gone away to school now but not sure he'd even know what to do if he was here or if i'd even want him touching my machine cuz one of the 1st problems was an error i found in Event viewer (something like ati2mg) & he didn't even know there was an event viewer.

Now look what i've done.........so much 2blahs 2blahs that i'm waaaay off track. Just would like to learn how to attach screen shot of DM question.

To use print screen and save file:
Quote:
In Windows XP, you can easily take a screen shot. Just press the Print Screen key on your keyboard, and the entire screen will be copied to your clipboard. To copy only the active window to your clipboard, press ALT+Print Screen.

Now, you just need to paste the screen shot into another program. To save the screen shot, open Paint, press CTRL+V to paste the screen shot, and save the file.
I'm sure you've got Paint installed, so once you hit the proper keys, open it up paste the pic and save to an easy to remember location then upload it here.

You don't really need to use Irfan at all.
