Open HiJackThis and run another scan.

Once it's completed the scan, look over the following entries I have listed, place a check in the boxes next to them as listed(some may not be present due to previous instructions): and press the 'fix' button. When you are doing it, make sure you have no browser windows open, including this one.

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:6522
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wvvwursys] rundll32.exe "nnkigd.dll",s
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nnmjjhaudio] rundll32.exe "mlkihi.dll",s
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wvtssqsys] rundll32.exe "nnkigd.dll",s

Reboot, run another scan with HJT and paste the log and advise of any ongoing or new problems as well as providing any info and or logs requested above.

Then also check connectivity and Malwarebytes updating.

Thanks for the log(s).

Download The Avenger file from the link below and save it to your desktop:
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger2/download.php

1- Unzip/extract the avenger.exe from that zip file to your desktop.
2- Double click on avenger.exe to run The Avenger.
3- Click OK.
4- Make sure that the box next to Scan for rootkits has a tick in it and that the box next to 'Automatically disable any rootkits found' does not have a tick in it.
5- Copy ALL of the text below in the code box by highlighting it and then pressing Ctrl+C.
Code:
Files to delete:
c:\windows\system32\mlkihi.dll
c:\windows\system32\nnkigd

6- In the Avenger text window, click the Paste Script from Clipboard, button.
7- Click the Execute button.
8- You will be asked "Are you sure you want to execute the current script"
9- Click Yes.
10- You will now be told, 'First step completed --- The Avenger has been successfully set up to run on next boot. Reboot now?'
11- Click Yes.
12- Your PC will now be rebooted.

*Note: If the above script contains Drivers to delete: or Drivers to disable:, then The Avenger will require two reboots to complete its operation.
If that is the case, it will force a BSOD on the first reboot. This is normal & expected behavior.
After your PC has completed the necessary reboots, a log should automatically open. If it does not automatically open, then the log can be found at %systemdrive%\avenger.txt (typically C:\avenger.txt).
Please attach this scan log. Even if you experience errors with the program, please check for the log in the above mentioned location.

Paste the results back into this thread

A b o r t !

followed your directions but when avenger was rebooting my system it was stuck on the windows xp loading screen for over 15 minutes so i turned off the computer and rebooted it manually. not sure if I just needed to be more patient with it or if I screwed something up.

Did you add the text as directed into the Avenger text box?

It should look like the image, of course the files listed are the ones I presented previously not the ones in the example.

Thanks for the log, those files don't exist.

Open HiJackThis and run another scan.

Once it's completed the scan, look over the following entries I have listed, place a check in the boxes next to them as listed(some may not be present due to previous instructions): and press the 'fix' button. When you are doing it, make sure you have no browser windows open, including this one.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: tttqpaudio] rundll32.exe "mlkihi.dll",s
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [iifcdeaudio] rundll32.exe "mlkihi.dll",s

Reboot, run another scan with HJT and paste the log and advise of any ongoing or new problems as well as providing any info and or logs requested above.

In your opinion would it be a good idea to upgrade to windows 7 for better protection since xp is at least 8 years old or more. I'm not sure if it will help

That looks good, nice work. It seems to have achieved positive results.

Please update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, choose the 'Quick Scan' option and rescan the system, apply the 'Remove Selected' button once the scan is done, pasting the log afterwards.

Also advise of any new or ongoing issues.
